Job Description

Our client is a leading ASX listed mining company and nearing commissioning stage for a world class underground mine and processing plant producing a broad range of base metal concentrates. Approximately 30 minutes drive south of Goulburn and 1 hour drive north east of Canberra – the mine has a number of towns close by, providing a range of housing affordability options to optimise a strong work/life balance.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a demonstrable track record in safety awareness and a commitment to the principles of OHS at mine site level. As the Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will be an integral member of the mining team developing the mine.  You will report to the Mine Technical Superintendent and the role will see you develop, implement, monitor and review control measures to minimise geotechnical risk associated with underground mining. 

To be successful in this role you will have: Sound knowledge of rock mechanics, ground support systems, numerical modelling, seismicity and mining methods, a strong ability to identify, analyse and resolve rock mechanics issues, proficiency with geotechnical data collection, evaluation and interpretation (including mapping and core logging). In addition the ability to provide geotechnical input for rehabilitation, short/medium term planning (development, paste-fill, stopes and stopes sequencing) and mine scheduling activities together with experience in reviewing ground control performance with regard to design, installation practices and design assumptions.

Practical knowledge and experience in the application and operation of mining software (Datamine, Sirovision, Dips, Unwedge, MAP 3D) with the ability to maintain and optimise hazard management systems pertaining to excavation stability including hazard management plans, teamwork, strong communication skills, effective problem solving skills, analytical skills and improvement capability.  Bachelor of Engineering (Geological or Geotechnical) or Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) with relevant postgraduate qualifications or at least 7 years’ experience in an underground metalliferous mine ideally with paste fill.
